Week Eight - 4th June - All activities running - Mon, Tues, Thur & Fri

Week nine - 11th June - All activities running - Mon, Tues, Thur & Fri

All afterschools activites will finish on Friday 15th June

Dear Parents - we hope this finds you well - and enjoying the lovely weather - it's great to see the children out enjoying themselves - it's a big contrast to the snow and storms that we had earlier in the year.

As we rapidly approach the end of school here are a final few details for you- 

  • Online Safety Talk for parents of pupils in 3rd-6th Class will take place in the school tomorrow night (Thursday 7th) at 7.30pm. It is a very important topic and we would urge thouse of you with children in those classes to ensure that you attend.

 

  • Next week is "Active Week" in school - please ensure your child is wearing runners for the week as there will be lots of impromptu sporting activities and the usual active breaks - there is even a rumour of some whole school dancing again! Like last year we may need some parent volunteers to help us so keep an eye out for future e mails!

 

  • Our Sports Day will take place next Thursday here in the school grounds - as usual the Main College Gates will remain closed to ensure the safety of all pupils. There will be some limited parking available in the school playground. The annual tea and coffee area will again be collecting for MS Ireland - a charity we are delighted to support. Please do remember that pupils are not permitted in this area during the Sports Day activities. We will start officially at 10 am and pupils will be able to go home at their normal times. We always ask parents that if they are in a position to send in some cakes/biscuits on the day for the tea and coffee stall - we would be really grateful! It's all raising funds for a great cause.

 

  • KPS ANNUAL SOCCER MATCH - As some of you may be aware, for the past two years, we have held a friendly Parents and Teachers soccer match here on the grounds following the Sports Day activities for the children. This year, we will be doing the same and we’re hopeful we will get the numbers to play another hotly contested derby match for the entertainment of all the fans! To qualify, all you need is to be a parent/guardian of a child in the school! If your child is in the Junior End of the school, from Junior Infants to 2nd Class, you will be placed on the Junior Team and if your child is in the Senior End of the school, from 3rd Class to 6th Class, you will be placed on the Senior Team. If you have a child/children in both ends of the school, then the choice is yours!

    Last year’s Senior Team was a bit light in numbers, so if you have any interest at all in playing, we’d be delighted to have you!

  • End of year closure - during the course of this year all schools were instructed to close for a half day to facilitate staff training in Child protection. With all of the interruption the staff felt that another day off during the final term would be unhelpful! To that end all of the staff will instead complete this training on the last day of term - we feel that this will be the most minimal interruption. Following Board approval - we would just like to confirm that the school will now official close for the summer holidays at 12.00 noon on Thursday 28th of June - one day earlier. It will be nice to have a shorter week for the last one!

  • Staff allocations for next year - the school is still in the process of recruitment for the additional teachers and will be involved in this process for the summer. In the meantime the list of staff for the upcoming year is as follows - 

    • Junior Infants - Rachael Blennerhassett

    • Senior Infants - Rachel Williamson

    • 1st Class - Jenny Blennerhassett

    • 2nd Class - TBC

    • 3rd Class - Lorna Lawrence

    • 4th Class - Eoin Griffin

    • 5th Class - Rob Devlin

    • 6th Class - Ciara Yates

    • Learning Support & Resource - Avril Bennett, Valerie Morton, Elaine Murphy & Additional staff TBC

    • SNA - Gillian Brislane & Jean Lew

  • Music Concert - the concert for pupils in the school who attend music lessons in school will take place on Thursday 21st June - further details for pupils who are involved will be sent out in due course.

  • Booklists - we are currently in the process of drawing up the final booklists for next year - remember you do not have to buy any books - the school will order them all and bills will be issued to you in due course - over the next week or so we should have these available for all parents.

There is a lot of information there to process - so we will try to keep you updated as we get nearer to events,

 Thanks to everyone who made it to our Proclamation Day Celebrations - we really had such a great time - it was great to see our National Flag go up our flagpole and even better to see all the parents and visitors joining in for the dancing and celebrations!

WE DID IT!! 

We are all so proud of our Senior Girls Hockey team - they have just won the Leinster Final for their division - winning against Scoil Mhuire 3-1 - they did such a wonderful job and congratulations to everyone on the team - and of course their amazing coach Mr Devlin! Come on KPS!

There are no afterschool activites on the week of the 14th of March as we close for the holidays on the Wednesday!


 

Visit from the Irish Air Corps 

The school had such an amazing assembly this morning - we were visited by Capt. Balfe and Sgt. Walsh from the Irish Air Corps. They presented the school with a special pack based on the centenary celebrations for the 1916 rising. Along with the pacj they presented the school with our own Naitional Flag. For the moment we have to mind it carefully and then on the 15th March next year, along with all of the other schools in the country, we will have an official "flag raising ceremony" and some additional celebrations! Huge thanks to all the parents and staff who helped us in our idea of coming to school in our three national colours - we ended up making an amazing flag in our playground - have a look below! Also well done to our pupils who helped with the reading of the proclamation and the accepting of the presentation!

Kildare Place School is a mainstream mixed primary school. It has a staff of a Principal, 8 class teachers, 3 Resource Teachers, 1 Learning Support Teacher, 2 Special Needs Assistants and many more! We generally have pupils from 4 years of age to 12 years of age.
